American Majority Trained Candidates Win Wisconsin Local Elections

Stepping up to run for a political position in your community takes courage and sacrifice. This is why we’re proud of new leaders across the country who are winning at the local level in Spring elections. In last week’s Wisconsin Spring Election, American Majority trained 10 winning candidates and 5 additional winning candidates were identified through our New Leaders Project. This brings us to a total of 60 trained candidates who have won at the state or local level since we opened our Wisconsin office in October 2010.

The highlight of the Spring Election was American Majority-trained Joe Voiland who knocked off 18 year incumbent and recall Walker signing Judge Tom Wolfgram for Ozaukee County Circuit Court. Joe had this to say“The biggest thing I learned from American Majority’s training was the importance of having an organized ground game. It’s not just putting your name out there, you have to work hard to win elections.” Joe not only won, he won big, garnering 63% of the vote.

At the municipal board level, a first time candidate and small business owner, David DeGroot won the Mount Pleasant Village Trustee race. DeGroot received more votes than any Trustee candidate in Mount Pleasant. The Racine Journal Times ran a profile piece on his victory and he credited his success in part to our training, stating the training helped him “focus and prioritize about how to run an effective campaign.”

Wisconsin Reporter took note of the success of these candidates at the local level and wrote an extensive article, “WI’s ideological candidate schools graduating more elected officials.” It noted “grassroots training organizations like American Majority… in Wisconsin are making a big impact.”

We are proud of our trained candidates’ success and look forward to having more stories to tell of ordinary citizens stepping forward to improve their communities through running for office. To bring an American Majority New Leaders Campaign Training to your area, contact us today.

Running for office is no easy task. From fundraising, organizing volunteers, coordinating events, writing letters, and reaching out to voters, the process can easily seem daunting and overwhelming. In the same way we prepared the 60 state and local candidates in Wisconsin, we will equip you to go beyond political activism to actually affecting policy from an elected office.
