Dave Brat: One of Us

June 11, 2014

Dave Brat does not fit the traditional profile of a Washington politician. A professor at a private college in a small town, he had little-to-no access to the kind of money and power that big shot politicians need to win elections.

But with a small band of grassroots conservatives, Dave turned the political universe upside down last night.

Outspent by a margin of 26 to 1, Dave was counted out by the establishment in Washington, including national conservative groups. Without their support, he relied solely on local volunteers to get his message out and toppled one of the most powerful politicians in the country, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor.

You see, the one thing the Ruling Class establishment in Washington did not count on is the power of the grassroots. Dave knew how to motivate men and women like you and me who are tired of out-of-touch politicians.

Last November, Dave attended an American Majority campaign training session titled “So You Want to Run for Office?” at the Tea Party Action Conference called “Changing the Rules of the Game” in Richmond, VA.

The conference was organized by the Virginia Tea Party Patriots Federation which is made up of a fantastic group of conservative organizations across Virginia. Our national headquarters is located in Virginia and American Majority has been honored to work annually with participating groups, such as the Richmond Tea Party, over the past six years to train activists across the state.

Founded in 2008, American Majority’s mission is to train an army of rock star conservative leaders like Dave Brat to bring real change to Washington, D.C. Our training sessions equip candidates and activists in the tried and true methods of local grassroots organizing and shoe leather campaigning – the same kind of tactics Dave Brat used to win.

As he proved last night, lasting change doesn’t begin in the nation’s capital but in local communities where real people live and work.
