7 Books That Every Political Junkie Should Read

Political Junkie
August 23, 2016

By Angela Kelley, American Majority Director of Operations

First, a little bit of background, as I am older than most at American Majority. I remember the cold war; Watergate rather than Sesame Street on my TV, and riding in cars without seat belts. Politically, I grew up in the 1980’s, so I was influenced by the Great Ones: Ronald Reagan and Rush Limbaugh.

My first presidential election was 1988 with George H.W. Bush, and I watched Oliver North kick Congress’s rear during the Iran-Contra scandal. I was glued to my TV set during the first Gulf War and prayed constantly that this country wouldn’t treat our soldiers as we had treated the soldiers returning from Vietnam when I was a small child. I was open to Bill Clinton, but realized early on that he was worse than a scoundrel, and after they tried Hillarycare, I was thrilled to usher in Newt and the boys and watched happily as Bill bent toward the conservative side, our stocks thrived, the internet boomed and life was pretty good.

I’ve watched as “liberals” tore down every single conservative leader in power or celebrity; pour our money into unions rather than well performing charter schools; done their best to take away our right to defend ourselves against lawlessness, yet claim conservatives are the racist mean ones. I’ve seen them defend a person’s right to take their own life as well as take an unborn child’s life, yet take away society’s right to put to death heinous criminals.

Yes, I’m a political junkie. I can’t seem to turn it off; although, now days, I am angrier than I have ever been at the ruling class and the uninformed lemmings who keep putting them in power. Since there is no 10 step program for what ails me, I wanted to give you 7 books that every political junkie should read, so that you may JOIN me in my addiction. Come on in! The water is fine.

#7: Laura Ingraham – Shut Up and Sing

If you are beyond tired, as I am, of the constant barrage of celebrities in the arts as well as in the media, put their liberal slant on EVERY single thing, this is the book for you.

#6: Larry Elder – The Ten Things You Can’t Say in America

Larry tackles them all. This book is very conversational and easy to read, although even now a bit shocking (though it was written in 2000). Larry not only tackles issues that white people have a hard time discussing, he goes into health care, the war on drugs, welfare, and the 2nd amendment as well.

#5: Walter Williams – More Liberty Means Less Government

I am a huge Walter Williams fan. An economics professor at George Mason University, Williams looks at the country’s problems with an eye toward capitalism and why it works for us.

#4: The Federalist Papers – Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, James Madison

You can’t argue with a liberal unless you know what principles this country is founded upon.

#3: Rush Limbaugh – The Way Things Ought to Be

Let’s just say when I saw this book in my boyfriend’s home, I knew this was the man I was destined to be with for the rest of my life.

#2: Ayn Rand – Atlas Shrugged

Find out what happens when the engine of the world doesn’t run any more.

#1: Jonah Goldberg – Liberal Fascism

This is my all-time favorite read, in any genre. Jonah is very funny and entertaining, yet at the very same time, this book is exploding with so many facts and political history lessons, you will want to re-read it and re-read it and make sure you get it back from your mother after you lend it to her.
