Oklahoma
It’s been said that the greatest natural resource in the Sooner State is its people, and a truer statement could never be made about this outstanding state. The people of Oklahoma pride themselves in their hard work, determination, and world-renowned hospitality. And as the 47th state, Oklahoma is a relatively young state. However, our history as a part of the Louisiana Purchase, our early designation as Indian Territory, and our subsequent land-runs that brought us to statehood in 1907 all highlight how unique we are within the United States.
Our political history is also interesting and distinctive. Until 1964, Oklahoma was considered a swing state in national elections. However, since 1964 presidential races have all been one sided, and this, along with our state’s values and its people, is why Oklahoma is often mentioned as one of the most conservative states in the Union. We are proud of our streak of often going against the national “grain,” and our record shows how independent and strong-willed the people of Oklahoma can be.
