Twitter Hashtag Launch: #Win2016

March 24, 2015

Twitter will be the 2016 Digital Battleground. In an increasingly digital world, more and more Americans spend more and more hours on social media. Campaigns are increasing their digital presence to interact with voters where they spend the most time. When you examine the people who are on social media, you find that they are voters. In fact, 88% of social media users are registered voters.

Conservatives must be organizing online in order to win hearts and minds in 2016. To do so, we are launching a new Twitter hashtag: #Win2016. (To those of you wondering what a hashtag is, check out American Majority’s Twittivism Guide to get you up to speed). We encourage our followers and readers of this blog to use that hashtag when tweeting about 2016. Our goal is to create a conservative community where people can disseminate information and frame the race in such a way to influence other social media users.

We’ve seen the power of a targeted hashtag campaign in Wisconsin. When collective bargaining reforms were proposed in 2011, the Left organized online through creating these hashtags: #wiunion and eventually #wirecall. Some on the right realized we needed to help organize conservatives, so we created #wiright. This conservative hashtag mobilized conservatives in Wisconsin in an unprecedented way and helped to get the message out that the common sense reforms were working. To do this day, #wiright is being used by hundreds, both to get a message out and for folks to follow what is happening in Wisconsin.

#Win2016 will help to organize and mobilize conservatives to win in 2016. We will share campaign and volunteer tips and information on it. We will also have giveaways for those at our trainings who use the hashtag to live-tweet. You can also use the hashtag to get more exposure on your tweets and gain more followers. Cumulatively, American Majority’s team has over 155,000 followers and we will mention and Retweet those who help to spread the word about it, giving your account more exposure.

Conservatives can win in 2016 if we are organized and effective. Through organizing online with #Win2016, we are taking a step forward to do just that.
